Shetland Hawfinch

Its always good to see Hawfinch and Shetland has had a mini influx the last couple of weeks

Most have been in the north  but this male turned up with a female in Lerwick, thanks to Geoff Leask

It was a case if one was there the other wasn't and by the time i arrived the female had gone replaced by the male

I was only present 5 mins before it turned up and it only took a couple of sparrow to start feeing on the peanuts before it jumped down on the bird table

I have seen a few Hawfinch in Shetland, the last one two years ago.

One garden in Voe has 4 birds with others in Yell and Mossbank

Elsewhere the two Crane have disappeared by a Kulmins gull has joined the Iceland Gulls in Lerwick. Also up to 3 White Tailed Eagles roam further up north although one passed Spiggie
