Shetland red Necked Phalaropes

Good to find out that Red Necked Phalaropes seem to have had another good breeding season in Shetland

It will only be a matter of time before they head down to Peru, a long journey for such a little wader

                                         Seems a long time ago there was only 9 pairs breeding

RSPB Frampton Marsh

 

Just returned from a holiday down south and managed a couple of days birding

Have not been to Frampton Marsh for 15 years and then it was in March. Summer is different.

Had some good weather and a reasonable journey down from Sheffield, taking 1.75 hours

Lots of Sedge warblers calling from the reedbed and showing well. Better after lunch when the wind dropped

Reed Bunting

Lots of Mute swans with young

As usual the Spoonbills were less active, 6 in this group

Good to see Avocet doing well, around 150 adult birds

Goldfinch feeding closeby

Reedbed warblers included many Reed warblers but they stayed alot lower than the Sedge Warblers

Lots of Young Avocet around the reserve

Sumburgh Puffins

I keep saying that i have enough Puffin photos but then head up to Sumburgh for more.

Incoming Puffins are the hardest to get, coming at you at a very fast speed. With my system, the A1 the auto focus is fast even with a 1.4x converter on a 200-600mm lens

All these were taken at ISO12800 on a dull day, the i have used Topaz AL noise reduction.

Speed was at 1/5000 second at F9
