The Redstart

News came in that a Common Redstart/Whinchat hybrid had been seen down at Grutness. A rare bird, I did see a Redstart briefly yesterday in the garden so thought i would give the area the once over again.

On arrival i could see a bird working along fence posts some distance away and through a visitors telescope could make out this hybrid bird. It was darker than a Redstart and showed a white collar.

It disappeared so we made our way over to the garden where a Willow Warbler showed then the hybrid Redstart but it then disappeared over the wall

I made my way down to the Black Tailed Godwit flock which had increased in number to 138 with some closer birds. Down at the beach just a few very aggressive (to each other) Sanderling (8) Ringed Plover (6) White/Pied wagtail 6 , Wheatear (2) Meadow Pipit (5)

Back at the garden a Willow Warbler showed and then a Redstart. But this was a Common Redstart which showed better than yesterday
