Greenish Warbler

After seeing the Whin- Start over at Grutness i made my way across to Sumburgh Hotel gardens unaware that a Greenish warbler had been found

This was a fast moving warbler, just staying in one spot for a second or two and flying up above the bushes to catch insects

A small group of local and visiting birders started to arrive but we all remained spaced out

I have seen a few Greenish Warblers before and all have been difficult to see in a well vegetated patch

Greenish warblers are leaf warbler and are found in North East Europe. They are strong migratory birds normally wintering in India

Typical of leaf warblers they have a grey/ green upper parts and whiteish below

In Britain the are a regular but rare migrant with around 20 birds appearing each year with Shetland hosting a few each year

Birds usually arrive mid August - mid September
