migrants arriving in Shetland

Sunday and Monday was a good couple of days for migrants in Shetland

Had a trip up to Sumburgh Head. At first it looked like nothing was about but i stood looking at the line of rosebushes and birds started to appear

It was good to see Redstarts so close, at the roses and around the lighthouse, one very confiding

me and my friend, a beetle

The Greenish Warbler found yesterday suddenly appeared for a few seconds just in front of me but then disappeared for the next hour, with whitethroat, Willow Warbler, Garden Warbler and a few Blackbirds

Both Spotted and  Pied Flycatchers were present in Hoswick along with an Icterine warbler, Six willow Warblers and a Garden Warbler
The rare Hudsonian Godwit was again at Sumbugh airport but keeping low in the vegetation

A Sparrowhawk flew past at the Quarry where Garden Warbler and Whitethroat appeared. Else where but not seen by me, Several Wryneck, at last a dozen Icterine warblers, Golden Oriole, Barred Warbler, Blyth Reed Warbler and Red Backed Shrikes. A good start to autumn migration, lets hope it continues
