With the winds changing to a north easterly new birds were always on the agenda. First a Spot Billed Duck turned up at Westerwick and was photographed flying west by Mick Mellor, this is a rare bird from Asia or more likely an escape.
The Broad Billed Sandpiper was showing very distant at the Punds in Levenwick but i chose the Olivaceous Warbler down at Quendale which was first seen at 7.30 the previous evening.
I arrived to see 5 other birders looking at the bushes close to the bridge. The warbler showed briefly flying in deep cover but showing occasionally at the edge.
I tried watching up near the barn and it showed well on the edge of the bushes but the light wasn't good and it was distant but i managed to get some decent photos
Another couple of birders had arrived but i decided to go the the south western side where the warbler instantly showed but behind vegetation. It was moving fast catching insects but finally it stopped deep in cover, i found a gap and started shooting at ISO10,000 A lot closer, but it then showed again moving west.
A new bird for me and for a few others
