Shorelarks

It was great to see 5 Shorelark together down at Scatness, this beat my previous record of 4 down at Holkham, Norfolk back in the 1980's.

They were originally found at Grutness pier, well two birds which quickly disappeared but relocated at the back of the pool. Then they moved down to the point around the cairn the site where i saw the last Shorelark

The following day, 4 October, 4 Shorlark were located down on the westside at Scatness just beyond the small loch and were joined by a 5th bird the following day, feeding on slightly raised ground just beyond the loch

I managed to get down on the 6 October and found all 5 straight away. They were constantly feeding on seed heads and occasionally flew onto the top of the hill

At least 50 Skylark also fed in the area. Down by the loch 30 Dunlin rested and a Grey Heron flew over.

I then went down to see whether the Semi Palmated Sandpiper and Little Stint  was still present at Virkie but both seemed to had left. I stayed 1/2 hour but only 4 Dunlin and a White Wagtail came down to the waters edge
